About the role
- Providing administrative support within the Wards, understanding, empathy, flexibility, patience, and a positive attitude in a high demand area where customer focus is central to our core values.
- Capturing patient's demographics, efficient and accurate transfer, and discharge information.
- Working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure timely booking and transport service options including non-urgent patient transport via QAS or alternative transport providers for patients.
- Fulfill the accountabilities of this role in accordance with Metro North's core values, as outlined above.
- Greet patients and/or their relatives professionally and courteously on arrival or by other forms of communications to the Department and ensure “Clinical” questions are referred to the appropriate clinical area/Clinician or Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Provide a quality client service including liaising with staff, public and private patients, carers, and external agencies, ensuring an efficient, courteous, and confidential reception/information service is consistently given.
- Perform duties such as searches, registrations, admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients on the Hospital Based Corporate Information System (HBCIS) as per district policy and departmental procedures.
- Accurate, fast, and thorough data entry of new registrations and updating of patient's demographics, next of kin and referring doctors' details for all patients.
- Discuss options and interview patients from the Patient Election Form (PEF) to determine the funding source for the admission code, inform privately insured patients of the benefits of choosing to be treated as a private patient. Complete appropriate forms for private patients. Establish the status of medical cover for patients, be it through Medicare, a private health insurance fund, workers' compensation, Department of Veterans Affairs, a third-party insurance claim, self-funding patients or any other funding source.
