About the role The Ward Assistant role is highly active and fast paced. You will have the ability to multi task, manage competing priorities and be self-driven while working mostly unsupervised. The role requires you to provide non-medical assistance to staff and patients in the Acute sector of Grampians Health Ballarat. Successful applicants will be required to work across a variety of shifts: 8.00am – 4.30pm, 4.30pm – 9.00pm and 9.00pm – 7.30am. Paid training is offered to successful applicants. To maintain your position with the Central Allocations Unit, a commitment of 4 shifts per fortnight is required. Casual bank is managed by the Central Allocations Unit which operates 7 days a week. Grampians Health uses an electronic rostering system which matches staff for shifts based on their availabilities via text / phone call. Casual bank shifts can be offered within short time frames, therefore to be considered for this role you must be living in the Ballarat region. You will be required to provide 2 referees, one being your current direct manager and the second another manager / supervisor. Key Responsibilities
Maintaining accurate availability in our electronic rostering system and accepting shifts based on availability
Cleaning patient areas, bathrooms, equipment and utility rooms in the clinical ward environment
Prepare patient beds for admission
Attending to general housekeeping duties as required by the clinical ward
Transfer medical equipment, patient files and results between departments according to hospital protocol and as directed
Transporting specimens to pathology department as directed
Maintain stock levels of linen and non-medical supplies
Participate in annual performance reviews
Commitment to ongoing mandatory education

Demonstrated high level communication to be able to interact with a wide variety of individuals
Demonstrated ability to function within a team
Demonstrated person-centred care and respectful approach to patients, visitors and staff
The ability to prioritise work
The ability to work with limited supervision
Demonstrates ability to be involved with change management processes and be supportive with the implementation as directed by the manager
Current Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain
