What you'll be doing
The Administration Officer level 2 (Ward Clerk) role is ward/unit based and supports the work activities of nurses, medical staff and allied health staff, with locally determined shift times based on patient and ward/unit service delivery needs. The Ward Clerk may provide admin officer functions across the health facility or to more than one ward/unit. The Ward clerk works closely with existing administrative staff such as CSO and communication officers at the ward/unit level.
The role complements existing roles, systems and processes in the organisation. The Ward Clerk provides timely and accurate administrative/transactional services for members of the health care team on designated ward(s)/unit(s) under the direction of the Nurse/Unit Manager(s) - NUM(s). The Ward clerk works under broad supervision but is required to take some independent action. Scope exists for exercising initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures.

Selection Criteria * Effective communication skills including accurate spelling, good comprehension, confidence in the spoken word and ability to deal confidently and courteously with people at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work under broad supervision and to undertake a diverse range of tasks as an effective member of a team in a high pressure, high volume work environment.
  • Proven experience dealing with patients/Clients and their families/carers.
