Our Journey
Unit 3 is a 20 bedded older adult's acute unit based at the Dandenong Hospital. The inpatient facility provides acute care and treatment and intervention for older people (65 years and over) with mental illness and behaviours associated with dementia and cannot be managed either in their homes or in aged care. Unit 3 offers a multidisciplinary and a holistic approach to the caring, treatment interventions, and support of those patients who are most vulnerable. The team is composed of , Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Registrars, Neuro and Clinical Psychology, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Psychiatric Enrolled Nurses, Social Work, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapist and Psychiatric Service Officer. The team takes pride in delivering a comprehensive model of care that integrates both physical and mental health aspects.
A Day in the Life:
  • Greeting and redirecting patients and visitors in a pleasant manner
  • Answering and screening telephone calls for the unit
  • Relaying messages in an efficient and effective manner
  • Organising patient admission processes, ensuring patient information is entered and maintained on IPM and CMI
  • Perform clerical duties including word processing, photocopying, faxing, filing and shredding confidential information maintaining medical records as per professional and legal standards
  • Organise maintenance and repair requests
  • Transport booking, faxing discharge summary, medication lists
