The Role / Key Responsibilities
Would suit an experienced, forward thinking Chemist/Industrial Chemist and a HAZMAT professional who has a clear understanding of how to handle hazardous chemicals on or offsite in a decommissioning / emergency spill response or clean up capacity. This is a physical role which involves manual handling in an often challenging environment. The role will involve;
- Handling, sorting and processing of waste in IBCs, drums and other containers/pails;
- On/offsite hazardous substance and dangerous goods handling and management;
- Repackaging and labeling different types of chemicals or industrial wastes
- Treatment of waste materials to either neutralise, immobilise or solidify onsite;
- Conduct simple in-house analyses, equipment verification/calibrations;
- Review of procedural documentation to maintain controls and standards;
- Conduct sampling for external analytical services;
- Examines the chemical and physical attributes of materials, and designs and oversees chemical procedure;
- Performing experiments and tests to determine the chemical makeup and reactivity of both natural substances and processed materials;
- Investigating and researching to formulate theories, methodologies, and procedures, and assessing the consistency of results across various scenarios.
The Ideal Candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Be physically fit and capable of manually handling waste material;
- Experienced industrial chemist;
- Experienced in HAZMAT Emergency Response situations;
- Good communicative and interpersonal skills to co-ordinate equipment and resources to jobs;
- Have a proactive approach, work autonomously and have availability to work outside of standard business hours (in emergency events);
- Understand writing and reviewing technical documents, i.e. Safety Data Sheets, Safe Work Method Statements;
- Methodical and effective record keeping skills
- Preferred understanding of the waste industry’s guidelines;
- Current valid Drivers Licence;
- Current Forklift Ticket.
