Goterra is a Canberra based Ag-tech start-up company building sustainable solutions to the critical global challenges of food waste and climate change. At our headquarters in Hume, we design and build modular robotic infrastructure (MIB) that uses insects to manage food waste. Our diverse, multidisciplinary team has expertise in engineering, manufacturing, software, electronics, agriculture and biology.
Goterra’s Waste Operators are key members of the Facilities team, responsible for managing and processing incoming food waste and carrying out the tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running of the Waste Operations Team
Your duties include but are not limited to:
- Manual handling of solid and liquid organic (food) waste material
- Manually removing contaminants from the waste stream e.g. glass, soft plastics and metal
- Sorting and separating general waste, recycling and organic waste into individual piles and recording the information into the company digital database (MagOps)
- Managing the processing of waste from receival through depackaging, maceration and delivery to MIB storage units
- Operating waste handling machinery eg forklift, tractor, conveyor, depackaging machine and performing autonomous maintenance
- Ensure that cleaning procedures are followed and carried out daily, whilst using initiative to manage out of scope failures resulting from waste spillages
- Cleaning and maintaining waste management facilities, waste yard and all working areas and equipment to a high standard
- Documenting inputs of organic waste and outputs of non organics into the digital platform at the end of each shift
- Ensuring that all scheduled daily tasks are completed by end of shift
- Abiding by Goterra values, and tenets and carry out all duties in line with Goterra’s policies, procedures and processes
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties which fall within the remit of this role
Requirements:
Skills:
- The ability to perform allocated duties with minimal supervision while adhering to agreed protocols
- Ability to manage your own workflow by moving between work stations throughout the day to ensure that the waste is processed efficiently
- Digital literacy skills - a Smartphone is required to communicate with team members and for managing tasks through the applications Slack and Asana
Role specific requirements:
- A valid Driver’s licence and reliable transport
- The ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, e.g. some lifting up to 20kgs, being on your feet for the duration of the shift
- The ability to work within an odor producing environment handling organic waste

Qualifications:
- Possession of or working towards obtaining a Forklift License highly desirable
