The Position
The WHS Officer will develop, implement, and manage health, safety, and environmental systems to ensure compliance with statutory regulations. This role involves working closely with all levels of the organization to manage WHS&E risks and cultivate a safe culture. Please note, as per the requirements of this role, the successful applicant must be willing to work fulltime onsite.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain compliance documentation with all relevant Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality regulations.
• Organize safety training and support workers in implementing system improvements and corrective actions.
• Manage all aspects of workers' compensation, including return-to-work plans, in collaboration with line managers.
• Update, review, and issue WHS documentation for each project, including JSEA’s and SWMS.
• Conduct site audits to ensure compliance with legislation, WHS policies, and procedures, including regular visits to construction sites and factory/workshop settings.
• Ensure timely and accurate incident data and KPI reporting.
• Manage and facilitate WHS Committee actions and activities.
• Undertake internal audits and report on WHS metrics and milestones to management weekly.
• Maintain reports and registers such as injury reports, injury registers, and hazard registers.
• Develop educational materials as well as facilitate monthly toolbox talks and safety alerts.
• Organize pre-employment medicals and follow-ups as necessary.
• Prepare and submit reports to management as required.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced WHS Officer with a passion for safety and a proven track record in similar roles. They will possess:
• Minimum Certificate IV or equivalent in WHS.
• Experience in Return-to-Work Coordination.
• Previous experience in a WHS role, ideally withing a manufacturing and/or construction environment.
• Advanced computer skills, especially in Excel and Word desirable.
• Strong decision-making skills and experience in policy and procedure development.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
• Experience in embedding a safety culture within an organization.
