Sydney Airport is seeking a dedicated Wildlife Officer to join our Airfield Operations team. This unique role is pivotal in maintaining the safety of our operations by effectively managing and monitoring wildlife activities around the aerodrome. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in minimising wildlife hazards, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of aircraft movements.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Conducting routine wildlife surveys in alignment with our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and aerodrome manual, to maintain the integrity of our aircraft movement areas.
- Recording, storing, and analysing wildlife data using our electronic databases, including the management of wildlife strike information.
- Employing various wildlife management techniques, including the use of firearms for the dispersal and culling of wildlife, in accordance with our Wildlife Management Plan.
- Coordinating with the Airfield Operations Supervisor to provide essential wildlife information to Air Traffic Control (ATC) and conducting daily patrols to ensure airfield safety.
- Managing and reporting on significant wildlife hazard events or seasonal variations, contributing to the overall safety and operational efficiency of Sydney Airport.
- Supporting the Head of Airfield Operations & Compliance in investigating significant wildlife strike events and participating in airport emergency response as needed.
Experience You’ll Have:
- Higher School Certificate or equivalent; Certificate III in Aerodrome Operations or similar is preferred.
- A valid Firearms Licence and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in airport operations, with a focus on safety management or airfield coordination.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an operational environment is desirable, along with a proven track record in managing complex operational tasks.
Skills Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety systems and CASA standards.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
- Strong organisational abilities, with a focus on achieving results and meeting deadlines.
