Our Client is a local employer of choice with the aim of creating a prosperous future for generations built on a solid foundation of customer focused, efficient and effective service delivery. This large Regional Council has a long and proud history of development, prosperity, and resilience and covers some 19,700 square kilometres of diverse Australian countryside, shared amongst six main townships: and an additional 25 villages and farming catchments.

This is a rare opportunity to Implement and monitor the Work, Health and Safety (WH&S) Management System. Utilise and grow your WHS proficiency within a “best practice” environment while trialling life in regional Qld.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Assisting with the development and maintenance of an effective Safety Management System and ensure implementation across all Council worksites.
• Identifying and investigating WH&S risks/ non-compliance.
• Providing accurate and up to date information, support, and advice to all areas of Council to ensure the organisation is compliant with applicable legislation and the compliance framework.
• Coordinating and undertaking WH&S training and assessment functions including inductions and the verification of competency program.
• Coordinating and assisting with the management the work and non-work-related injury and illness rehabilitation program.

To be successful in this role you will need:

• C class drivers’ licence
• Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator competency (approved by the Queensland Workers’ Compensation Regulator).
• Tertiary qualifications or undertaking formal qualifications relevant to the work area, e.g. Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety, or higher.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Council’s functions, program activities and work practices, procedures and policies, the underlying discipline principles, and statutory requirements relevant to the discipline or work area.

Additionally, you will need to utilise your proven ability to analyse and report, strong problem-solving skills, solid organisational ability, and communication skills to be a robust team player within the council.
