Due to continued business growth, an exceptional opportunity has arrived to add this new role to the Claims and Injury team. The role will suit a committed claims professional with self-insurance experience, who is wanting to sink their teeth into a diverse and exciting Claims Advisor role. 

Flexible work arrangements for the right candidate will be considered, but due to the nature of the industry, regional site visits (Goulburn, Wodonga, Sydney, Orange) and some travel are an ongoing requirement of the role.

About the Role 

This role is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to move into employer-based Workers Compensation. RFT is a prominent transport group working closely with Comcare, other licensee's and the Licensee association, providing a unique opportunity to participate in working groups for legislative and regulatory changes. 

In this role you will be responsible for making accurate and timely decisions on Compensation Claims, effectively managing claims through evidence gathering provisions, determining compensation payments and working collaboratively with Injury Advisors to assist with coordinating the injured worker’s rehabilitation and return to work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Register and acknowledge receipt of claim for compensation
  • Record claim data in line with Comcare Data Warehouse (CDW) requirements
  • Gather, investigate and use information from relevant sources to determine liability to pay compensation
  • Draft initial liability determinations
  • Calculate Normal Weekly Earnings and determine incapacity payments
  • Undertake duties and responsibilities as set out in claims authority delegations that are reasonably required as part of an injured employee’s compensable condition, recovery and return to work.
  • Request for reconsiderations and reviewable decisions
  • Coordinate claims reviews 

This is a permanent, full-time role reporting to the Manager - Injury and Claims. In consideration of flexibility and the company’s geographical requirements, this role would be based at of either our Goulburn (Canberra) or Newport (Melbourne) depots. 

About You
You have a solid understanding of the legislation requirements for self-insurance and Workers Compensation and understand the differences between Comcare and state-based schemes. 

Having worked in claims administration in Comcare, you find yourself now wanting to further your career in an employer-based role where you have the opportunity to provide practical support in an operational setting.

You are enthusiastic about Workers Compensation and want to continue to learn and grow in the field, where being a part of the association and working amongst a group of licensees will provide real-time learning opportunities. Your new peers feel similarly, so there will be plenty of mutual admiration of the rewarding work found in Compensation Claims.

Finally, it goes without saying that you thrive on achieving results, have a strategic mind that can problem solve even the most complex of claims, are painstakingly meticulous with your accuracy, and have a natural discipline to keep yourself highly organised. 

Your skills and experience for this role need to include:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience a similar role
  • Technical knowledge, application, and experience with the SRC Act, regulation and claims management framework
  • Strong literacy skills to draft determinations
  • Numeracy skills to calculate normal weekly earnings, incapacity, and permanent impairment
  • Experience developing policies and procedures
  • Understanding of relevant claims management software programs such as Solvinjury
  • Completion of your Comcare LMS training
  • Prior Transport Industry knowledge would be an advantage
  • Certificate IV in Personal Injury Management desirable but not essential
