Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

The Role
The Yapa Crew is a flexible and culturally secure Newmont Tanami Operations (NTO) entry level work readiness, work experience and skill development program.  It provides local-local Warlpiri people with NTO workplace orientation, induction and foundational skills that may lead to ongoing employment at NTO either with the Yapa Crew, other departmental areas, or within local communities.

In this role you will continue to develop the scope and outcomes of the Yapa Crew program, effectively integrating the program into the operational fabric of Newmont Tanami Operations (NTO), while providing supervisory support with the day-to-day activities.

Key Accountabilities
• Developing respectful and supportive relationships with coordinators and all crew members
• Effectively communicating with and managing the crew
• Developing a shared sense of purpose and focus for the crew
• Conducting, scheduling, communicating and recording task and program of works planning at the start and end of each shift and start and end of each swing
• Working alongside crew members on tasks as required to model expected skills, behaviours and practices
• Overseeing the maintenance of crew vehicle(s), equipment/machinery and tools
• Providing the Project Supervisor with appraisals on crew leads and members at the completion of each swing
• Actively planning, participating in and conducting meetings (e.g., START, Toolbox and safety meetings)

About You
• Significant relevant experience, mining industry preferred
• Experience in managing and mentoring Aboriginal people
• Experience in planning, managing and implementing projects
• Good communication skills, both verbally and in written form 
• Able to quickly develop rapport with all levels of the workforce and influence and support internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to develop mutually respectful working relationships and lead a work team
• Current C class and able to drive a manual 4WD vehicle (HR license advantageous)
• Other small machine operation competencies
• Adequate computer literacy and demonstrated ability to use basic Microsoft Office programs
