Position Summary
Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.
Tangentyere Youth and Night Patrol is part of the Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through providing innovative, responsive, and culturally appropriate services.
This position is responsible for the operations of Night Patrol, which assists people at risk of either causing, or becoming victims of harm in the community. Night Patrol provides early intervention, mediation and negotiation strategies aimed at the prevention of conflict and antisocial behaviour through patrolling the public areas of Alice Springs and town camps seven days a week, 7pm to 3am.
As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and coordinate the operations of Night Patrol through organising, prioritising, and monitoring staff workload and performance
• Work in partnership with police and other services providers to create a safer community and to improve outcomes for people by providing guidance, information, and referrals.
• Ensure Night Patrol administration is completed daily.
• Provide assistance to indigenous people at risk of either causing harm or being harmed through regular patrolling of the town camps and public areas of Alice Springs and transporting people in vulnerable situations to safe places.
• Other relevant duties as required.
• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
• Experience leading a small team that delivers a service to Aboriginal people in an outreach capacity and/or patrol experience.
• Understanding of issues facing Aboriginal people in Alice Springs.
• Understanding the importance of teamwork including conflict resolution within a service delivery environment.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, give advice and support within a small team environment.
• Good literacy, numeracy, and computer skills.
• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

• Town Camp Resident
• Certificate II in Community Services or equivalent (or willingness to obtain).
• Senior First Aid certificate.
• Working knowledge of Aboriginal Language/s.
