The opportunity

IFYS has an exciting opportunity for a Youth Development Worker to join ‘The Old Church Youth Accommodation' program.

The Old Church Youth Accommodation program provides young people aged 16 to 25 with safe accommodation, as well as services that enable positive education and employment outcomes, to help them build careers and transition into their own accommodation

Reporting to the Coordinator - Accommodation Services the Youth Development Worker will provide case management and support to young people utilising a client-centred and strengths-based framework to facilitate their transition to independent living.

Key objectives:

  • Provide case management, coaching and support to young people to address their employment, training and education needs and reach their individual goals
  • Utilise a client-centred and strengths-based case management framework to facilitate their transition to independent living
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, to ensure a holistic and collaborative approach that supports positive client outcomes
  • Assist in the development and implementation of pre-employment/living skills programs and other group workshops
  • Facilitate house meetings that assist young people to build positive relationships between themselves and develop living and interpersonal skills
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of tenancy agreements including: entry and exit reports, quarterly inspections, lease monitoring & management, rent collection and bond lodgements
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of administrative duties including (but not limited to): case notes, timesheets, reports, maintenance of waiting lists and client folders within required timeframes

Key requirements:

  • Professional experience working with vulnerable or at-risk young people
  • Qualifications in or currently studying Youth Work, Mental Health, Community Services, Human Services or Social Work highly desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strengths-based and client-centred practice
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful:

  • Valid QLD driver's license with no restrictions and own fully insured vehicle
  • QLD Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card)
  • Licensed Care Suitability Check (LCS2)
  • National Crime Check (A new check will be completed through IFYS systems)
