About Us
Kurbingui Youth and Family Development is a not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled organisation.
Established in 2001, the organisation has continued to grow in the number of services delivered to the community in areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement, support targeting successful educational outcomes for families and children and young people from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women and men, cultural group activities, social, emotional well-being - suicide prevention, crisis response and treatment and health and nutrition.

The purpose of the Local Level Alliance (LLA) is to establish and strengthen connections and networks between local services that are involved with working with vulnerable families, children and young people to ensure they receive the right service/s at the right time. Through strengthening the service system, the LLA contributes to:
  • Improved outcomes for families at risk of entering into statutory systems through referrals to family support services and/or family needs met by the Combine FACC
  • A reduction in unnecessary reports to Child Safety as a result of more efficient and effective pathways for children and families to access child and family support services
  • A reduction of in the number of children at risk and in out-of-home care through increased use of family support services and improved matching of services to high risk families.
The Role
The primary purpose of the role is to work closely with the LLA Coordinator to take the lead in identifying key agencies and services that contribute to the service systems across our region for vulnerable children and their families. Support the Coordinator to establish and coordinate forums, working parties and other activities that promote service delivery collaboration, as well as assist in identifying service system gaps and communicate information to peak bodies within the sector, including decision makers.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
  • Qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Early Childhood, Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences with a focus on child protection and or equal professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse children, young people, parents and families as well as other community members.
  • The ability to liaise and work collaboratively with relevant Government and non-Government organisations.
  • Sound knowledge of the community service sector; including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and services for families, children and young people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural protocols, practices and the impact of historical events throughout the generations experienced by families, children and young people, Elder’s and individual Men and Women in contemporary society.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify available services and service gaps.
  • The desire to assist in building on community capacity to provide more efficient service provision for families and a thriving local community.
  • The ability to contribute to place-based planning for the development of an integrated suite of local services that provide families with responsive, accessible and effective support.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate own workload.
  • Effective communication skills – written, verbal, interpersonal; presentations and meeting facilitation / participation.
  • Demonstrated competence in use of business technology, internet and desktop applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel spreadsheets, database packages and web-based information sharing portals.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, verbal and written, that promote the engagement of a wide variety of individuals and communities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities.
  • Willing and able to work within a culturally competent framework and approach within Kurbingui’s mission, vision and values.
Based in Zillmere, this full-time position offers a competitive remuneration package in line with the 'Fisher' & '316 Regulation' pay scale and Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.
