About Us: 

The WAC is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate holding interests for Wuthathi people in land and sea country in north-eastern Cape York Peninsula centred around Shelburne Bay. These interests include connection for 1,182 square kilometres of land including mainland, coastal and offshore islands and 8,072 square kilometres of sea country within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Coral Sea.

About the role: 

A new and exciting opportunity exists for the position of Youth Engagement Officer. The role will primarily focus on enhancing Wuthathi youth through a variety of on-country and classroom-based training programs. The program you will be coordinating is called the 'Wuthathi Future Employment Pathways Program,' and it is a targeted approach to improving our Wuthathi youth. The program is funded by the Commonwealth Government, and you will be responsible for ensuring that outcomes, reporting, and timelines are achieved. 

Key Responsibilities 
  • Ensure that all participants are actively engaged with their training by providing assistance and guidance in their chosen field of study. 
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process of all participants ensuring they are Wuthathi identified. 
  • Actively engaging with RTO’s and AASN’s to ensure that participants are equipped with the necessary tools to complete their studies. 
  • Administer, communicate and report on work plans to the Board of Directors through the CEO. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with elders, traditional owners, government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with the Custodian Coordinator and other staff to ensure that on-country training programs for participants align with the Custodian works schedule.  
Selection Criteria 
  1. Demonstrated experience in working with First Nations youth. 
  2. Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to write work plans, manage budgets, and grant reporting. 
  3. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement.
  4. Knowledge of using Microsoft Office Programs. 
Experience and Qualifications 
  • Cert IV qualification or higher in business administration, training or community services. Alternatively, five-years practical experience in a similar role.   
  • Able to acquire a Blue Card (Working With Children). 
  • Non-restricted Queensland Drivers Liscence.
