About the Role
We are currently seeking applications for the fixed term role of Youth Engagement Officer, located at our Strathpine venue. The role is on a part time basis working 45 hours per fortnight, for 12 months. Workdays/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
The purpose of this position is to provide a range of specialist intervention and support to Indigenous young people who are experiencing, or have been affected by, domestic and family violence through individual and group interventions.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Applying knowledge of family systems theory, child development stages and domestic and family violence. Specifically, the impact of child abuse and child witnesses of domestic violence, and a strong understanding of intergenerational trauma relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Facilitation of cultural healing to contribute to improved safety and empowerment for children and young people who experience family violence. This may include young people who may be displaying violent and/or complex childhood behaviours.
- Providing appropriate engagement, information referral and case management support to young people, and families using a wide range of strategies including individual, group, and community-based interventions.
- Networking with key stakeholders to develop and maintain collaborative relationships that build community capacity and raise awareness of DFV, particularly within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to ensure ongoing community consultation, including with community groups and organisations in the development of tailored responses to DFV in the community.
- Conducting client assessment and intakes, provide relevant interventions, information, referrals, and case management.
- Maintaining client files, case notes and risk management documentation as per organisational policy and procedure.
Work days/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant, however please note that the position holder will be required to work an evening shift (12pm to 8pm) up to once a week, with some flexibility needed in order to meet business requirements.
The salary being offered is $80,963.63 to $94,619.10 per annum, pro rata, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.
About You
The successful applicant will possess.
- Appropriate undergraduate qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences.
- Have demonstrated experience, and theoretical knowledge of domestic and family violence and the impacts on families.
- Capacity to provide crisis counselling and advocacy in a variety of settings.
- Knowledge of and be able to apply relevant legislation and regulations, specifically the Domestic and Family Violence Act, and or
- Have ability to rapidly acquire, a sound understanding of the Family Law Act.
