Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.

Wunan delivers the Target 120 Program in the East Kimberley.

Target 120 aims to address underlying issues that lead to offending, Target 120 is an across-government strategy to holistically support young people at risk of becoming repeat offenders to take a different trajectory that reduces recidivism and improves life outcomes.

Wunan is seeking two (2) Young Engagement Officers, based in Halls Creek WA.

Key Duties

The Youth Engagement Officer positions will collaborate with the Community Youth Officer, and:

• Engage and support Target 120 clients and families by addressing the “areas of need”
• Refer and register clients or family members to services available in the community
• Ensure clients and families are attending and engaging in services, including but not limited to school attendance, mental health appointments, rehab services, social services, employment opportunities, sports clubs, training courses and workshops
• Establish and maintain a meaningful association with the clients and families and provide support where needed.

Requirements of the role

• Highly developed communication and relationship building skills including the ability to negotiate, manage conflict, establish trust, network and gain co-operation with internal and external stakeholders.
• Significant experience in working effectively in culturally appropriate ways with Aboriginal people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated understanding of past and current issues affecting these communities.
• Service delivery experience in a human service, justice, child protection or mental health setting and an understanding of the issues around working collaboratively with agencies to build and develop interagency networks.
• Demonstrated capability in case coordination or management, planning, developing and implementing consultation processes and process improvement and capturing relevant evaluation data.
• Commitment to the principles of social justice.

Desirable criteria:

• Previous experience working in remote communities/towns, with youth at risk

Pre-employment requirements

☒ Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)

☒ Current Working with children clearance

☒ Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
