Job description

The role:

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) encompasses several clinical streams statewide across Tasmania. Clinical Streams include Community, Youth (16-25 years of age), Out-of-home-care children and Youth Forensic Team.

The Youth Psychiatrist will specialise in one of the CAMHS statewide clinical streams and work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health service team in delivering high quality mental health care and, in accordance with Mental Health Services principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Youth Psychiatrist will:

  • Provide a comprehensive psychiatric service for the assigned CAMHS statewide clinical stream.
  • Act as a consultant to mental health professionals and health service providers including general practitioners and other agencies regarding the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders.
  • Undertake supervisory responsibilities with Psychiatric Registrars and other medical staff as required/ appropriate.

Position Features

  • Participate in an On Call Roster and undertake call back work
  • Work outside normal hours and weekend work, which may include ward round as required
  • Intrastate travel may be required
  • Staff employed against this Statement of Duties as a Visiting Medical Practitioner will be employed in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement and remunerated accordingly

Details of Appointment

One Permanent full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing asap.

One Permanent part time, day worker (with on-call) position working 45.6 hours per fortnight, commencing asap.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: 210,000 to 301,349 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioner Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty (Psychiatry)

  2. Current Working with Children Registration

    *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Current Driver’s Licence

  2. Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent

  3. Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; or

  4. Certificate of Advance Training in Adult Psychiatry

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  1. crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
