Queensland African Communities Council (QACC) is a peak organization for African communities in Queensland. Established in 2003 as a not-for-profit organization, we have continued to be a united voice that facilitates and supports collective development while encouraging each African community and individual to advance their culture, skills, and business. We believe in self-reliance, progressive and culturally inclusiveness with a focus on advancing the interests of all African Australian communities in Queensland. About the Department
The African Youth Support Council (AYSC) was established in 2020 as an autonomous youth agency under the Queensland African Communities Council. Established with the aim to ensuring that every young person in the African community is being valued, supported, empowered and understood without judgment in what they do. Also, ensuring that young people have reliable access to local service providers, support in schools and building and connecting a relationship with family and communities. Our youth mentors/workers and family case workers operate primarily under the newly developed African Village Model that takes collective and individual approach to the needs of young people and families by ensure local strategic partnerships and collaborative mechanisms are developed with families, communities and specialist organisations and agencies.
About the role
We are looking for a passionate, experienced, qualified, energetic and knowledgeable Youth Worker who is able to independently initiate, develop and implement youth and family early intervention and rehabilitation programs in collaboration with local families, various community groups, schools, agencies and mainstream service providers using the key concepts and principles of the QACC’s African Village Model.
You will need to coordinate with the Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan-based AYSC’s workers and apply the same programs and frameworks that they use to engage youth, families and community.
We value knowledge of various multicultural communities, complexities, sensitivities, journeys of refugees, collectivist culture, systemic barriers and aspirations of families and young people in Australia and Queensland in particular.
You will be a strong advocate and voice of the young people, families and community, and operate impartially with a high degree of integrity, responsibility and accountability across Toowoomba and Gatton areas to create and facilitate opportunities for youth in areas such as homework clubs, access to sporting venues, safe cultural spaces, recreational activities, and cultural festivals.
You will need to exercise independent judge and facilitate co-designing of programs with young people and families.
