RCH has cared for the children and young people of Victoria for more than 150 years since it was founded in 1870. A full range of paediatrics and adolescent health services are provided plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

The Department:

The Department of Nephrology at The Royal Children’s Hospital provides quality clinical services, research and academic programs of excellence in infants, children and adolescents with disorders of the kidney, urinary tract and associated metabolic systems.  The department offers a comprehensive management program for all stages of chronic kidney disease, including peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis and transplantation.

The Role:

A clinical training fellowship is available from Monday 3rd February 2025 for a fixed term of 12 months in paediatric nephrology.  This fellowship is suitable for trainees who have passed the FRACP examination, but is best suited to trainees experienced in Nephrology. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate actively in management of general paediatric urinary and kidney conditions, management of chronic renal failure, investigations including renal biopsy, haemodialysis and renal transplantation.

Qualifications required

  • MMBS or equivalent
  • Completion of the written and clinical examination in paediatrics (RACP) or accepted equivalent
  • Eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Advanced Trainee in Nephrology is preferred, although Advanced Trainees in General Paediatrics or other subspecialties will be considered.
  • Fellows trained in countries other than Australia and New Zealand will be assessed for suitability on a case by case basis.
