Appointment Pool

Ellenbrook Secondary College (SC) are seeking to establish a pool for Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

We currently have one permanent full-time position available for immediate filling. This role will support the College by working with Clontarf, Deadly Sista Girlz and Follow the Dream programs.

The role of the AIEO is to assist teachers with the delivery of planned education programs and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants will act as a liaison between the community and the school to develop education programs relevant to education and cultural needs and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, particularly those at risk, through mentoring and pastoral care to encourage participation and achievement.

Suitable applicants should possess good communication skills, have the ability to work interactively with staff, teachers and parents and will ideally possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to interact on a range of levels. You should require good organisational skills to assist teachers in the delivery of effective education programs. In addition, you should have the ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students along with effectively assisting teachers in implementing educational and behavioural management programs.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff on the provision and development of educational programs.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on a range of levels in a variety of settings and with different audiences, including community members, teaching and other professionals.
  • Ability to contribute to a school-level team and to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.
  • Ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
  • Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
  • Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

Eligibility and training requirements

Aboriginality is considered essential for this position under section 50(d) of the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
