This includes supporting individuals and groups of students with mental health, behavioural, social, and emotional support needs on a daily basis.The SSO will assist in the development and introduction of systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. You will assist with the development and running of small group social and emotional learning and wellbeing programs.As the SSO, you will develop supportive links between the student, family, school staff and other appropriate agencies in the community. You would assist with the implementation of a range of school attendance strategies; attend and provide supporting information to team meetings, case conferences, and other intervention processes.As an SSO, you will undertake a wide range of administrative and student focused support services within the school, maintain information and record systems and collate and prepare information used in case conferences and to develop strategies and Student Support programs.Kelmscott SHS is a school of opportunity for students. The school offers Department of Education endorsed Specialist Programs in Agriculture and Music, Gifted & Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Program and a range of Kelmscott Extension Programs (KEP) in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities & Social Sciences. We are only one of two schools to provide Gifted & Talented online to rural areas.We have a proud reputation of promoting students to be active citizens at the local, state, national and international levels. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
  • Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations, and services.

  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
