The position aims to improve access, equity, and health care for Aboriginal people with cancer, promoting patient centred care and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, facilitating an approach in 'closing the gap' between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cancer outcomes. - This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Hold qualifications in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or other health related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated active involvement and 'lived experience' in Aboriginal communities, with a deep understanding and commitment to improving the health issues impacting Aboriginal communities.
- An understanding of Cancer Care provision, and the ability to guide Aboriginal people through the system in a culturally safe way.
- Demonstrated health care experience and sound leadership skills to facilitate effective and culturally appropriate education and training to ISLHD cancer services staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and confidence in negotiating with clinicians as part of the multidisciplinary team to advocate for best patient care.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication, word processing and email skills; with the ability to be self-directed and flexible, working across various sites, and managing competing priorities and tasks.
