Job description

  • The Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention team is a proud and dedicated group who use strength and connection to lessen the impacts of violence and neglect in families and communities. 
  • We are looking for someone from the Peel or Tablelands Sector to join our Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence prevention team across Hunter New England (HNE) Health.  
  • The position can be based in either Tamworth or Armidale but would provide some outreach to the other site.  
  • Our team is dispersed so you will be located with either other Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) workers or in Community Health.  
  • As an Aboriginal Family Wellbeing Facilitator, you will receive regular support from your team and the Coordinator.  As the team is dispersed across HNE, contact is both face-to-face and virtual.  You will also be part of the wider VAN Aboriginal and overall clinical network, which offers support, education and training. You will be supported to complete an educational pathway developed by the Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV) to become a qualified Counsellor.  
  • HNE has a cultural supervisor program with the option to work with another Aboriginal staff member in the health service in a one-on-one relationship.

About the role:

  • The Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Worker will empower Aboriginal people, families and communities to work together to reduce the impacts of violence, abuse and neglect within our communities.
  • The role has a lot of varied tasks working with individual clients of health services, families and communities. Relationships with other health workers and other community services and organisations is key.  You are an important link between HNE and other community groups connected to this work.
  • You will be the road some days across the New England.
  • Previous experience in working in a health, community of government service will be highly desirable.
  • This position is full time; however, part time/job share arrangements may also be considered.

  • Demonstrated experience being a part of community development activities.

Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. 
  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable local candidate is identified for the position; in this instance, you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
