About us The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
The Regulatory Transaction Services (RTS) provides business and occupational licensing and not-for-profit registration services to Victorians.
Reporting to the Business Services Manager, the Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is responsible for improving access to Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) services and information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers; delivering consumer education programs, and developing and maintaining effective relationships with Aboriginal communities in Victoria.
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
Key Accountabilities include:
* Assist Aboriginal consumers and community to access CAV's complaint handling processes for Aboriginal people to resolve their consumer/ regulatory problems.
* Contribute to the integrity and independence of Aboriginal member-based co-operatives and incorporated associations through the delivery of assisted compliance initiatives.
* Monitor and report on current status and emerging trends relating to community and governance issues within cooperatives and incorporated associations, in a timely and appropriate manner.
* Provide advice, information and support to CAV senior management, staff, clients, CAV regional and metropolitan networks and Aboriginal Community Engagement Lead about matters relevant to the regulation of Aboriginal co-operatives, incorporated associations and other CAV regulatory schemes.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community and a capability to engage respectfully and meaningfully with Aboriginal Consumers and Communities
* Ability to gain an understanding and knowledge of the content and administration of CAV administered legislation, including co-operatives and incorporated associations and other regulatory schemes.
