Position SummaryAboriginal Hospital Liaison OfficerThis is an identified position for a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descentLatrobe Regional Health (LRH) is currently looking for a candidate who is passionate and committed about improving the health of the Aboriginal community, to join our Aboriginal Health Unit team as an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer on a full time, ongoing basis.The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer will provide advice and support on culturally sensitive matters to staff involved with the direct care of Aboriginal patients, carers and families and assist in improving the services and resources available through LRH.As part of the Aboriginal Health Unit team, you will be part of the Aboriginal Services Development Forum aimed at facilitating communication and coordination of all activities related to the provision of Aboriginal services and initiatives across LRH.LRH employees enjoy access to:

- A sound knowledge and understanding of Victorian Aboriginal culture, society and kinship networks, as well as the ability to communicate with, and be accepted by, the local Aboriginal community.
- A demonstrated commitment and capability to make a positive difference in Aboriginal health and/or wellbeing.
- Ability to assist and support Aboriginal patients through advocacy, liaison and support throughout their hospital stay
- A current Victorian driver’s licence
- Knowledge and understanding of hospital protocols and procedures, desirable but not essential
- Proficiency in using a computer
- Ability to liaise with many levels of staff within the organisation and able to deliver training and present to various group of people
- Experience in working in the community, or a qualification in Community Development / Social and Community Welfare Worker, or other appropriate qualification which may include nursing, or working towards through personal initiative, will be highly regarded, but not essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
