Job description

Our client is a renowned NDIS-registered clinic specializing in psychology and behavior support. They focus on helping children and adolescents (ages 2 to 25+) overcome their barriers and meet their psychological needs. Their services include psychometric testing, ongoing therapy, and behavior management to provide a comprehensive, supportive experience.

Their mission is to:

  • Approach clients holistically, considering their unique support structures and needs.
  • Understand and support the needs of clients' informal supports with practical strategies.
  • Build strong rapport with clients and families to facilitate effective behavioral management.
About the Role
As a Speech Pathologist, you will play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating speech, language, and communication disorders. You will be part of a growing Allied Health team, working autonomously to support clients in achieving their NDIS goals.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology
  • Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the NDIS
  • Experience with AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication)
  • Working With Children's Check (WWCC)
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a registered vehicle
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Willingness to obtain a Criminal History Check
  • Compulsory third-party insurance on private vehicle (for work purposes)
Key Skills and Proficiencies
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and human development
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to empathize with clients
  • Up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practices and developments in the field
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards within the Australian healthcare system
Responsibilities Assessment & Diagnosis:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders.
  • Evaluate oral-motor, speech, language, and cognitive functions to develop targeted treatment plans.
  • Recommend and prescribe AAC systems under the NDIS and other funding agencies, including preparing funding applications.
Treatment Planning & Implementation:
  • Develop individualized plans based on assessment findings using evidence-based interventions.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions to address speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing disorders.
  • Manage a caseload of clients, including those with complex needs, in their natural settings.
  • Use a strengths-based, client-centered approach to support clients in identifying and achieving their goals sustainably.
Therapy Delivery:
  • Provide client-centered Speech Pathology services to clients of all ages, focusing on positive outcomes.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment strategies to optimize progress and outcomes.
Patient Education and Counseling:
  • Educate clients and their families about communication disorders, treatment options, and strategies for improvement.
  • Provide counseling and support to help clients cope with the challenges associated with communication disorders.
Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, educators, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated care.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and caregivers to facilitate understanding and adherence to treatment plans.
  • Liaise with the NDIS, Support Coordination, external organizations, and other referrers/funding bodies as required.
