The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) provides care for more than 400,000 people living in the northern metropolitan area of Adelaide and boasts newly redeveloped wards and Emergency and Outpatient Departments, with plans for the addition of more brand-new facilities in the near future. NALHN provides a full range of high-quality medical, surgical, maternity, diagnostic, emergency and support services. NALHN offers a range of primary health care services across the northern metropolitan area of Adelaide, with a focus on providing preventive and health promoting programs in the community, and transition and hospital substitution and avoidance programs targeted at chronic disease and frail aged.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity is presented to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as the Aboriginal Workforce Engagement Officer within NALHN's Aboriginal Health Strategy and Community Engagement Team.

The Aboriginal Workforce Engagement Officer aims to improve attraction and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce. Underpinned by the NALHN Aboriginal Workforce Plan 2023-2031, this includes strategic planning, policy implementation, event coordination, data management, evaluation and reporting. Work at this level is undertaken by employees with highly developed project, analytical and written communication skills. 

The Aboriginal Workforce Engagement Officer is also the lead facilitator of NALHN's well known "Deadly Team. Deadly Communities." Aboriginal Employee Network.

Locations include Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Primary Health Care sites at Muna Paiendi (Elizabeth Vale), Maringga Turtpandi (Hillcrest), Wonggangga Turtpandi (Port Adelaide) and Kanggawodli (Dudley Park) as well as the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals.

A requirement of this role is that the applicant is Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander pursuant to the exemption from the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA). The role requires Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander expertise, cultural knowledge and life experience. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants will be considered for the role.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.

  • National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable groups required for this position (E.g. aged care employment or work involving vulnerable clients)

Immunisation Risk for this position is – Category B (indirect contact with blood or body substances)

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
