We are seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate Academic Coordinator to join the Diploma of Engineering, coordinating Physics Fundamentals and Design, Data and Decisions) on a fixed term contract until the end of 2024.
Reporting to the Program Manager - Science and Engineering, the Academic Coordinator is a champion of the Integrated Model of Learning and contributes to the assurance of high quality UTS College subject delivery through exceptional leadership, the development of curriculum that exemplifies the integrated model, and the provision of strong student support.
About the Subjects
EPFD001 Physics Fundamentals
Physics Fundamentals serves as an essential foundation experience for all extended engineers and scientists. Students will be equipped with fundamental physics knowledge, including mechanics, thermal physics, electricity, fluids, waves and optics. They will also develop analytical, problem solving, observational and technical as well as measurement skills needed to address physics[1]specific problems. Further, they will learn the importance of scientific communication in the contemporary and increasingly global scientific context.
SDDD001 Design, Data, and Decisions
This subject focuses on data analysis. The subject aims to show students how to collect and analyse data and how to draw valid conclusions from the data. The subject begins with a discussion of how to sample from a population, and how to describe the data collected. This is followed by a discussion of how to form and test hypotheses about the population using the data collected from the sample.
About the role
This position will hold a range of responsibilities, including:
- Contributing specialist subject knowledge to the development of academic subject curricula and learning materials
- Preparing, updating and maintaining teaching and learning resources and assessment rubrics each semester
- Delivery of best practice teaching
- Providing students with individual and group support, monitoring progress and implementing appropriate intervention strategies for those at risk
- Assessment and moderation, including results reporting and providing timely feedforward and feedback
- Ensuring subject teaching staff fulfil their responsibilities inside and outside of the classroom
- Guiding the professional development of subject teachers through classroom observations, peer learning, mentoring and other professional development indicatives
- Liaising with other Academic Coordinators and the Program Manager to ensure a consistent approach to subject delivery
- Demonstrating ongoing scholarship of the discipline area and teaching in student centred learning through a personal learning portfolio
- Contributing to UTS College promotion and recruitment activities, prize giving and graduation ceremonies
About you
To succeed in this role you must have:
- Tertiary qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering - with physics or statistics focus (postgraduate research degree preferred)
- A Graduate Certificate of Student-Centred Learning (or ability and willingness to complete by end 2024)
- Strong disciplinary knowledge on all topics covered in the subject
- Strong knowledge of integrated learning and teaching models, and their application
- A strength in teaching pathway courses using contemporary learning and teaching practice, including blended learning for curricula delivery
- Strong understanding of best practice curriculum design principles, and demonstrated skills in developing and delivering technology-enabled curricula at an undergraduate level
- Highly developed skills in digital technology and its application in a blended learning environment (particularly Canvas or other LMS)
- Strong knowledge of Access and Inclusion needs
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating an academic subject (at least 3 years' preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and leading a team of academic teachers
