You will work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues and with students to ensure the library’s collections and services align with the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering’s ambitious plans for education and research. This will include the development and delivery of embedded digital, information and research skills support and teaching across a broad portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.We are looking for people who can bring experience of working in an academic or equivalent library environment, and an enthusiasm for supporting those working and studying in higher education. You will have provided subject support and information skills teaching and should have a knowledge of information resources and tools available to support teaching and research.   • Liaise with Academic Schools and Institutes in a specified Faculty to identify their current and future learning and teaching and research priorities, using this information to plan and deliver appropriate information and library services
  • Develop, promote and review library collections and services in consultation with academic staff, to ensure that they meet the evolving needs and interests of the academic schools. This includes identifying library and information requirements of new and existing degree programmes/modules and contributing to learning and teaching reviews, professional body accreditations and other validation activities
  • Effectively manage designated budgets pertaining to faculty and academic school responsibilities to library print and electronic resources to ensure optimal value for money. Budgets range from £40,000 to £200,000 depending on subject areas
  • Take a lead on the design, delivery and evaluation of information literacy and research skills programmes for undergraduates, taught and research postgraduates and academic staff. This includes the development of learning resources such as online tutorials, screencasts and other learning objects
  • Work with the Library’s Research Services team to deliver and promote services relating to scholarly communication, including Open Access publication and licencing, research data management, research metrics and general Research Excellence Framework (REF) support
  • Provide specialised subject support for specific subject areas utilising relevant information resources held by and external to the Library
  • Work with other Academic Liaison Librarian(s) to manage and develop a small team of Assistant Librarian(s) and Liaison Assistant(s)
  • Represent the Library at faculty, school, institute and other relevant University meetings where library matters are discussed
  • Liaise with the Academic Skills Manager and other professional support services to ensure the co-ordination and effective promotion of a wide range of academic skills support for students, particularly information and digital literacies
  • Contribute to the development of innovative library services and associated operations to realise the Library’s strategic and operational objectives, ensuring new services are defined and implemented in a coordinated and sustainable way
  • Build successful and productive relationships and partnerships within the Library, University and with external bodies, suppliers and the wider community
  • Lead on one or more core development areas within the Liaison team in collaboration with the Head of Liaison and Academic Services
  • Participate in relevant networks and communities to ensure that work is informed by current developments in research, information literacy academic practice and pedagogical research. This includes presenting at conferences and seminars
The PersonKnowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Substantial experience of library work in an academic or other appropriate environment
  • Experience of subject support and service planning in a library environment
  • Knowledge of information resources and tools available to support work in the appropriate academic disciplines, and of current issues and challenges relating to scholarly communications
  • Experience of the preparation and delivery of information and digital literacy skills teaching, including learning materials in a range of formats to suit blended learning delivery and different levels of study
  • An understanding of the needs of those working and studying in a higher education environment, including researchers and research students, and the library’s changing role in supporting them
  • Awareness of issues related to budget management
  • Leadership and staff management skills, including the ability to encourage innovation and creativity
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills, and the ability to negotiate with and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Highly developed IT skills, including experience of using MS Office applications, web-based information resources and tools, Virtual Learning Environments e.g. Canvas and social networking applications
  • Strong organisation and project management skills and the ability to deliver to deadlines

Qualifications
  • Educated to honours degree standard or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualification in Librarianship / Information Science or equivalent
  • A teaching qualification (e.g. a Certificate or Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education) and/or achieved or willingness to work for Fellowship of Advance Higher Education (FHEA)
