What’s the job?
The Accessibility Advisor will assist in the delivery of strategies and programs designed to increase the recruitment, participation, retention and success of students with disability at Think Colleges, Torrens University Australia and Media Design School (New Zealand).
The role will report into the Director of Learning Services and has overall responsibility for the development of learning supports that enables as full participation in university life as possible for students with disability. Whilst this role works with a range of different stakeholder, this is a stand-alone position that will support students across all our Australian and New Zealand campuses.
Day-to-day accountabilities
The role is responsible for the development of learning supports that enable as full participation in university life as possible for students with disability, through:
The provision of professional case services responding to the individual needs of students with a disability
Implementing policy developments and changes in relation to the University’s obligations under anti-discrimination and support for students legislation
Promoting and undertaking university community awareness raising activities about accessibility issues, and
Consulting with members of the community about accessibility issues and ways in which participation by people with disabilities can be enhanced
The role will promote opportunities across the business to increase the recruitment, participation, retention and success of students with disability, maintain a client case load and coordinate the implementation of accessible adjustments for students, implement systems which support and empower students with disabilities and support prospective students with disabilities in their transition to the university.

This is a permanent full-time role, that can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide. There is flexibility to work from home, with provision for on-site presence when required.
Who you are
To be successful in this role, you are someone who is comfortable talking to people from all walks of life, staff and students, and who can prioritise and be organised to meet student lifecycle deadlines. We are also looking for someone who has:
A relevant undergraduate qualification (preferred) or equivalent experience and relevant expertise.
Demonstrated knowledge of and a commitment to anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation, particularly as it applies to people with disabilities
Demonstrated understanding of the rights of people with a disability undertaking vocational and/or higher education in a service delivery context.
Strong interpersonal skills including excellent relationship management and customer service skills and the demonstrated ability to engage with and communicate effectively and professionally with people with a disability; and
Knowledge and/or experience working with tertiary student engagement or tertiary student support services, including services designed to improve student acquisition, transition, retention, and progression.
