Appointment Pool
The Office of the Chief Psychologist is seeking to establish a pool of School Psychologist Consultants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2026.
We have a permanent opportunity of up to 1.0 FTE available from Semester Two. While Statewide Services, Padbury is the physical location of the Office of the chief Psychologist, there may be opportunity to negotiate an alternative Department of Education work location.

The Office of the Chief Psychologist sits within the Statewide Services division which provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most.
With responsibility for the strategic direction and quality assurance of school psychology services across the Department, the Office of the Chief Psychologist promotes professional standards, connection and alignment, system consultancy, workforce capability and operational requirements for the Department’s School Psychology Service.
In this key role you will experience opportunities to support leadership for the School Psychology Service, with a focus on cultural responsiveness, student mental health and wellbeing and workforce capability. You will facilitate, codesign and collaborate with lead School Psychologists, schools, regions and Statewide Services, as well as internal and external partners, to develop and support initiatives that strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of the School Psychology Service.
The Office of the Chief Psychologist offers opportunities for aspirant School Psychologists to work at a system level, further develop their consultancy and change management skills and contribute to a number of exciting projects including:
- Refining and communicating the role and scope of practice for School Psychologists, brokering agreements and referral pathways with external agencies
- Strengthening processes, resources and supports for effective school service planning and evaluation
- Workforce planning, with a focus on building and maintaining a high-quality specialist service and a positive wellbeing culture
- Improving systems for accountability and monitoring of school psychology service delivery.
Your expertise will be utilised across the Statewide Services and the system to provide strategic advice and consultancy around identified issues. The role requires strong conceptual and communication skills, a contemporary scientist-practitioner approach, ethical reflective practice and ability to work at a system level to provide high-level consultation, evidence-based assessment, case formulation and interventions.
You will be professionally accountable to the Chief Psychologist and your practice will be guided and directed by the School Psychology Service Competency Framework, Department policies and guidelines and the Psychology Board of Australia’s professional standards.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- High-level knowledge and experience in providing specialist consultation, evidence-based assessment and interventions at a system level.
- Highly developed skills in applying specialist knowledge and the development and evaluation of contemporary approaches and interventions.
- High-level ability to communicate and clarify complex concepts, provide feedback and critical evaluation of the management of complex and challenging issues.
- High-level strategic leadership skills and ability to build capacity, influence systemic policy and undertake interventions and prevention programs and assist schools to formulate and implement responses to address identified outcomes.
- High-level experience in coordinating specialised support and in providing appropriate professional learning to a variety of audiences.
- High-level oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team and with a range of internal and external clients.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
