Job description

Do you love shaping and sharing brand stories across a variety of digital channels? Have a passion for client service? Love contributing to work that drives impact? Then do we have a role for you!

Heads & Tales – the creative content agency for Hardie Grant Media – is on the hunt for an Account Director to own client service and project management for some of Australia’s leading brands. But this isn’t just any old account management role… you’ll have a chance to take a seat at the table in high-level strategy conversations, add industry and market insights and context, and help shape content marketing strategies that work.

To apply, please provide a customised cover letter and CV detailing your experience in relation to the following role responsibilities and experience requirements.

Key Role Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role fall into four main pillars:

1. Client Service & Engagement

  • You’re the primary contact who will own and develop trusted client relationships. You will live and breathe their business (and category) and always be a step ahead to position us as a strategic partner.
  • You’ll be managing the agency’s largest clients, employing your own bespoke approach to account management, whilst upholding Heads & Tales client service standards.

2. Project Management & Team Coordination

  • Manage projects and campaigns end-to-end. You will develop briefs, host meetings, manage stakeholders and approvals, prioritising areas of focus for yourself and the team based on what will drive the most impact.
  • You’ll both deliver some components yourself, as well as harnessing the collective expertise of your wider team as needed.
  • Capture and interpret client briefs, galvanising the creative team and driving the process of how to bring the brief to life on time, on budget, and on brand.
  • Work effectively in a hybrid team environment, collaborating with and/or managing both local and remote team members.
  • Effectively collaborating with teams from our sister agencies within the Hardie Grant Media Network, as well as any other agencies in the client’s “agency village”

3. Client Strategy

  • Assist in creating the content marketing strategy for your clients in partnership with the strategic and creative leads; and manage its execution and the overarching client work plan.
  • Advocate for the client (and their customer) to ensure that we’re not just checking off boxes on a to-do list or task manager, but instead moving them forward and reaching their objectives.
  • Work closely with our Managing Director and senior leadership team to actively pursue new business opportunities and develop proposals, as well as seek out and develop new opportunities with our existing clients.

4. Managing High-Performing Team Members

  • Lead, nurture and develop the H&T client service team on both B2B and B2C client accounts, setting the standard for account management and client service within the agency.
  • Continually refine expectations, processes and approaches to continually push the productivity and capability of the team.
  • Be an effective direct manager by employing an authentic leadership approach and undertaking all routine people management requirements e.g. performance appraisals, feedback conversations, coaching and skill development, etc.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Experience - At least 5 years’ experience working in account management in a creative digital marketing or content marketing agency. Experience working with clients from diverse sectors, including B2B, the building industry and professional services, is a bonus.
  • Stakeholder management and client service – You are client-obsessed and focused on delivering the best client experience that sets a strong foundation for trusted relationships at all levels within your clients’ businesses.
  • Communication and presentation skills – You’re a confident, clear and engaging communicator, who can sell in strategic recommendations and conceptual ideas in plain language, so clients and colleagues understand them. You’re also able to develop presentation decks that have wow factor.
  • Project management skills – You’re a big picture thinker that can get equally obsessed by the details, even the most ambitious ideas can be broken down into bite-sized chunks of work across a timeline. There’s nothing we could throw at you that you can’t make happen – and you can efficiently and effectively get things done yourself or through others, equally happy working both autonomously and as part of a hybrid team.
  • Content marketing experience - You understand and can talk to the role of content marketing in the marketing ecosystem, and how to build engaged owned audiences through brand storytelling. From SEO to email, social media to podcasts, blogs to downloadable guides and video, you’re excited by helping businesses use quality content to be more useful and relevant to their customers and/or members.
  • Business acumen - You have good business sense and a solid grasp of finance, budgeting, and operations. You also know how to turn a business challenge into a marketing or content opportunity.
  • Curiosity and a hunger to learn - You want to learn and grow, and regularly invest in yourself to stay ahead of the game. You challenge people with new ways of thinking and never settle for the status quo. You’re ahead of the curve with what’s happening within the brand storytelling, content marketing and digital marketing worlds, and keen to share with everyone.
  • Fast thinking and a positive outlook - You like to focus on the positives in life and seek solutions rather than dwell on challenges, quickly shifting gears if an account requires a different approach.

Employment Benefits

Aside from the usual perks of working in an agency, a core pillar of what defines Heads & Tales (as part of Hardie Grant) is our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We are proud to say this is reflected through the benefits we provide our team, including but not limited to:

  • Flexible hours and hybrid working options
  • Bonus leave days
  • Summer Hours program
  • Additional menstrual & menopausal leave
  • Paid volunteer day each year
  • Paid blood donation leave
  • Extensive L&D programs
  • Free counselling, for professional or personal matters
  • 3 months parental leave at full-pay on top of statutory parental leave – for both primary and secondary carers
  • Fertility treatment and gender transition leave if required

Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, including people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people with a disability.
