AddressThere are current vacancies for a financial accountant and a management accountant within the DTA’s Finance, Procurement and Assurance (FP&A) Team.
The Financial Accountant will report to the Assistant Director, Budget and Reporting, and performs a range of finance activities including preparation of the DTA’s annual financial statements, monthly actual reporting in the Central Budget Management System (CBMS) and manage the DTA’s general ledger, including asset register and taxation module. You will work closely with other teams within the Corporate branch and play an important role to deliver high quality enabling services to the DTA.
The Management Accountant will report to the Assistant Director, Management Accounting, and provides support, advice and technical expertise to partner with the DTA’s senior executive and management teams in regard to budget performance, financial forecast and advice. The Management Accountant is responsible for providing strategic financial budget and forecasting advice insights to stakeholders to ensure informed decision making. The position will effectively manage key stakeholder relationships to ensure the timely delivery of key projects and promote active business partnering across the DTA.

The key duties of the positions are:
Financial Accountant
- Provide extensive input and technical expertise in the performance of a range of financial operations and financial accounting functions, such as journal entries and monthly reconciliations, primarily utilising MS Excel and SAP.
- Facilitate and lead a range of allocated financial operations and financial accounting functions, including but not limited to management of general ledger, month end and accounting controls processes, journal entries and review, monthly and periodic reconciliations including accrued revenue, accrued expenses, creditors, debtors and any other balance sheet items applicable.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reports and assist with the development of annual financial statements including supporting workpapers.
- Preparation of monthly and annual taxation lodgements and reports.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including the DTA’s shared services provider on operational matters such as Corporate Management, IT and other Cost Centre Managers, Department of Finance, The Australian Taxation Office, The ANAO.
- Maintenance of Asset Register, stocktake plans, AASB 16 Lease Schedules.
- Facilitate and lead the end of month closing process through the preparation of relevant end of month journals, undertaking monthly accounts and/or bank reconciliations.
- Ad hoc projects such as automations of financial management reports, data analytics and AASB 16 Cashflow budgets.
Management Accountant
- Contribute to the delivery of the DTA’s management accounting responsibilities, including the preparation of monthly cost centre reports and Executive Board financial management reports.
- Provide timely management and system accounting expertise through finance business partnering with internal stakeholders through the delivery of internal budget, forecast, month-end processes and maintenance of the DTA’s organisational structure for cost centres.
- Contribute and lead meetings with internal stakeholders to support their understanding of financial reports and advice, including preparing and delivering any supplementary reports or advice to strengthen their decision-making.
- Coordinate, develop, review and monitor the DTA’s internal budget, ensuring alignment with the DTA’s strategic planning process.
- Work closely with the external budget and reporting team to facilitate the DTA’s external Commonwealth budget cycle and funding returns, including Central Budget Management System (CBMS) budgeting requirements.
- Support and facilitate costing and advice for New Policy Proposals (NPP’s) including reviewing, analysing and providing advice and support to business areas on costings and detailed costing justifications.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of operational accounting and finance processes and procedures.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and support the overall strategic objectives of the DTA.
