About Us

Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation (MG Corporation) was established in 2006 to receive and manage the benefits transferred under the OFA to the MG People, who are recognised under Australian law as holding Native Title over large areas in the North of Western Australia’s east Kimberley region.

The Role
The Acting Youth Program Manager provides a key interface between government agencies, community service organisations and the local community, gathering and sharing information to provide enhanced access to supports and services for Target 120 and Home Stretch clients in accordance with their support plans and project requirements. This includes convening and maintaining relevant local governance groups, completing all reporting requirements and reporting to the Target 120 and Home Stretch program executive.

Roles and responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Operates at a system-wide level.
  • Promotes Target 120 and Home Stretch in the local area.
  • Provides strategic leadership and direction for local interagency governance groups, operational staff and service providers working with Target 120 and Home Stretch clients.
  • Oversees relationship with contracted Target 120 and Home Stretch service providers.

Support Co-ordination - Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Leads and co-ordinates the Target 120 and Home Stretch initiative in the local area, in conjunction with local interagency governance groups.
  • Demonstrates community leadership through collaboration with other agencies and community stakeholders, and active participation in relevant community activities.
  • Builds and maintains relationships and networks to promote and improve service delivery and enhance the profile of, and processes relating to, Target 120 and Home Stretch programs.
  • Supports effective operation of the local interagency governance group, including convening and facilitating regular meetings and enhancing stakeholder participation.
  • Works with agencies and stakeholders to identify and engage young people and families suitable for referral to youth and family supports and convenes collaborative case management meetings.
  • Provides support and assistance to agencies in resolving issues that act as barriers in the co-coordination and collaboration of service delivery.
  • Builds relationships and networks with the local community, including the Aboriginal community.
  • Contract management of relevant service providers, including monitoring the achievements of key performance indicators.

Information Management and Reporting

  • Records and maintains up to date information regarding local support options, consultation records and correspondence on the required database within required timeframes.
  • Maintains statistical and data collection requirements and provides information for the program evaluation.
  • Provides timely and accurate written and verbal reports to local interagency governance groups, the Target 120 and Home Stretch Project Team and MG Corporation Executive as required.
  • Completes and submits all necessary reporting, acquittals, budget / work plans within required timelines and is responsible for the accuracy of those reports, acquittals, budgets and work plans.
  • Monitors local expenditure against allocated budget and is responsible for the validity / lawfulness of the expenditure incurred under the Target 120 and Home Stretch Programs.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Qualifications in Community Development, Project Management or similar or relevant similar experience.
  2. Demonstrable ability to effectively communicate and cooperate with Traditional Owners to manage and support the delivery of projects. 
  3. Significant practical experience in planning and implementing programs and activities related to Aboriginal Youth programs. 
  4. Demonstrated leadership experience and confidence in working with Aboriginal communities, government bodies and agencies. 
  5. Experience managing a team of project and support staff. 
  6. Demonstrated capacity to remain focused, positive, adaptive and organised in a challenging and dynamic work environment. 
  7. High-level communication skills, ability to both lead and support as a member of a team in an indigenous-led organisation. 
  8. Sound knowledge of risk management procedures and practical experience implementing Health, Safety and Environment legislative requirements. 
  9. Demonstrated experience in project management, including capacity to manage logistics. 
  10. Experience in report writing and drafting policies and procedures related to the delivery of programs and activities.
  11. Experience in financial management of a program budget and ensuring compliance with administrative processes.   
  12. An ability to build networks and develop sustainable partnerships, working with the needs of a diverse range of relevant stakeholders. 
  13. Current valid driver’s license; Maintaining a licence is a condition of ongoing employment in this role. 
  14. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Indigenous social and cultural challenges and a willingness to commit to community empowerment, training and development.
  15. Willingness to move/live in Kununurra, Western Australia.

Desirable:

  1. Previous experience leading teams and managing community development programs.
  2. High level of computer literacy and proficiency with PC’s including word processing, spreadsheet use and data software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Qualifications and experience required/to be maintained:

  • A current WA C Class Driver’s Licence; 
  • Provide a National Police Check;
  • Working with Childrens Check

Location and conditions

This is an acting role while the Youth Program Manager incumbent is on extended leave. Kununurra based role offering a generous salary package. Base salary, superannuation, salary packaging and allowances.
