Job description

Swans Onslow commenced in 2010 (formerly VSwans) and provides children, youth and community development to the town, where we work with young children through to 17 year old youths. We work closely with the school and Shire, as well as families and the broader community.   

Based in Onslow, we are seekinganenthusiastic individual to join our social impact team asYouth Programs Manager delivering programs for 10-17 year olds.

You will play key leadership roles within our Onslow based team and have a hands-on role supporting young people individually, while also providing support and management to the Swans Social Impact team.

This is very much a community leadership role, focused on developing young people alongside the school, families, employers, and other NGO's, and looking for opportunities to collaborate and have an impact. Swans' Social Impact programs connect and engage young people, as well as their families, in learning and education, while also enabling them to build confidence and resilience to ensure that they become contributing members in the community.  

The expectation is that we positively influence individuals, and ultimately impact on futures in a positive way, aligning to Swans values.  

We want positive people, passionate about working with young people, and can lead and deliver programs focused on mentoring and the development of leadership and life skills.

A competitive salary will be provided as well as relocation and rental assistance. It is preferable that you have experience working within regional and/or remote Indigenous communities.

The Role: 

  • Delivery and local management of our Youth social impact and community programs to the Onslow community 
  • Managing resources across the various projects in the program and management and operations of the Swans Youth Shed   
  • Building mutually beneficial community partnerships and relationships 
  • Establishing and supporting service delivery events, meetings, and programs 
  • Maintaining complete, accurate and secure records of interactions with participants 
  • Providing written reports, advice and support 

The Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • Although not essential, Indigenous Culture, Education, Community Development, Psychology and Social Work qualifications will be considered favourably. 
  • Experience delivering early years and/or youth focused community programs 
  • Working with Children Check and Current Police Clearance 
  • Drivers Licence (C Class) 
  • Working with Aboriginal people and an understanding of Aboriginal Australian culture. 
  • Microsoft Office and other software package proficiency is important 
  • Working effectively in a team and independently. 
  • Time management, planning and administrative skills. 
  • Sound communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. 
  • Customer service and adaptability 
  • Right to Work in Australia 
  • Passion and enjoyment for working in the community, for the betterment of the community.

From our home at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean, we have provided an inclusive meeting place for our community since 1934 and this has been extended through our social impact programs across Western Australia.
