Primary purpose of the role
The primary responsibility of the Administration Officer, Care & Protection/Family Law Practice is to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

The Role
The Administration Officer role will be part of the Family Violence Prevention Unit (FVPU). The primary objective of the ALS FVPU is to provide culturally sensitive, quality legal assistance and facilitate wraparound services to Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander victims of violence and survivors of family and domestic violence and sexual assault. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault should be supported and empowered to lead lives free from the impacts of violence and have access to culturally safe legal and non-legal support services
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain office standards for timeliness in the management of client matters
- Data management
- Provide high level of secretarial support
- Liaise with clients and professionals, including, Solicitors, Court Staff, Corrective Services, other staff members
- Demonstrate continuing respect and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practices in dealing with clients, their families, communities and staff; as an employee of the ALS, continue to learn about the customs and history of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
About you
The successful incumbent will demonstrate:
- Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Proven computer systems skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
- Excellent phone manner and culturally appropriate communication skills when speaking with clients
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and the ability to multi-task
- Excellent problem-solving skills
