Full Time Youth Worker
Caretakers Cottage is looking for one experienced full time Youth Worker for our Bondi Crisis Youth Refuge. They will be working within a small professional team of Youth Workers and caseworkers who collectively provide support, mentoring, casework and supervision to young people aged between 13 and 17 years of age. The Refuge is staffed 24 hours/day.
The full time position is 38 hours per week inclusive of weekends and overnight shifts over a 4 week roster. Some of these shift hours are considered passive time and remuneration for the position is in accordance with the NSW SCHADS Award. All staff must be vaccinated.
The Role
The role is multifaceted and includes:
- The supervision of young people who are residents of the crisis refuge.
- The maintenance of a safe, supportive home environment for residents.
- Casework support and the implementation of case plans and/or behaviour management plans.
- Mentoring and supporting young people in their development.
- Managing the house, including cooking and cleaning are maintained to an acceptable level on a day by day basis.
- Assisting residents to develop their independence and living skills.
- Ongoing outreach and casework support for outreach clients.
Selection Criteria
- Previous experience in a youth refuge or in a similar role.
- A sincere passion for working with adolescents.
- A strong knowledge of homelessness and young people at risk.
- A demonstrated understanding of, and ability to, manage crisis, conflicts and challenging behaviours.
- A demonstrated ability to engage effectively with young people and their families.
- Relevant educational qualifications in youth work, social work or other.
- A current drivers license.
- A current Working with Children Check.
- Two referees.
