Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people? Do you want to be part of a world-class public education system that strives for excellence and growth for every student? Look no further!
Join the largest employer of Psychologists in the state and embark on an exciting career journey with the Department for Education based at Munno Para and Swallowcliffe Primary Schools. Our school-based psychology team creates real impact by offering services at early intervention, targeted and strategic levels with the benefit of working directly onsite and becoming an integral and genuine part of the school community. We are helping to shape the future of mental health and wellbeing in South Australian education through creative, evidence informed individual, group, and all-of-school interventions and programs.
Applying is quick and simple. Follow the steps in the Application Instructions below and take the first leap towards joining our connected and inspired statewide team which is dedicated to ensuring every student thrives.
What is different about a School-Based Service?
Known as the School Buy-In Service, schools, preschools and partnerships can apply to our service to ‘buy in’ an Allied Health Professional. We are a dynamic, flexible, multidisciplinary service model that adapts to meet the evolving needs of our schools, preschools and partnerships. School Buy-in provides an intensive and wide scope of allied health services, with built in supervision models and the opportunity to bring your creative flair to the role.
What we offer
At the Department for Education, we prioritise your professional and personal growth, providing an environment where you can flourish as a Psychologist. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside highly experienced Psychologists with world class expertise in school psychology. Our commitment to your professional growth is evident through the provision of quality supervision to refine your practice in various areas, including individual and small group interventions, case formulation, psychosocial assessments, and provision of training and capacity building for school staff and families. Our training days feature highly regarded presenters, ensuring you stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
Collaboration is at the core of our approach. In addition to working together with the highly experienced and committed staff at Munno Para and Swallowcliffe Primary Schools you will also work alongside a diverse multi disciplinary team as a part of Student Support Services, learning skills from other allied health professionals and experienced educators.
By joining us, you will be working with like-minded people who genuinely have a common goal to support schools to make a difference in the lives of children and families. Our team is dedicated and generous with both their time and their expertise. They are compassionate and caring in their approach to children, families, and school staff. This unique and collaborative work environment sets us apart.
As a member of Student Support Services and the school team, School-Based Psychologists are able to carry out responsibilities with a degree of autonomy and creativity, with project oversight and regular clinical and peer supervision provided as standard practice. You will have access to resources and quality professional development programs to meet AHPRA registration requirements and complete a PsyBA registrar program for an area of practice endorsement.
About the Role
As a School-Based Senior Psychologist, you'll provide an important, tailored on-site service at Munno Para and Swallowcliffe Primary Schools in collaboration with educational site leadership and within the interdisciplinary Student Support Services (SSS) team. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to promote and lead strategies to support the mental health, wellbeing, learning, social, emotional, and behavioural development of children and young people. The specific goals and activities that you will deliver are contained within a project plan that is contextual to the school’s needs.
Both Munno Para and Swallowcliffe Primary Schools have observed an ongoing need for embedding personalized and targeted interventions for students who are experiencing learning and wellbeing difficulties. The number of children experiencing learning difficulties and who have functional needs around their wellbeing and emotional regulation is currently very high despite high quality and targeted intervention at both sites. The number of students requiring additional support with learning difficulties and their wellbeing, together with a requirement for staff to upskill in this area, has led the schools to seek a School-Based Senior Psychologist to support the delivery of more evidence informed approaches both at a universal and targeted individual student and staff level.
The School-Based Senior Psychologist position will sit within the multi-disciplinary allied health team across the two sites, consisting of the speech pathologists, occupational therapist and psychologist school-buy in projects. Student intervention and staff capacity building referrals to the School-Based Senior Psychologist will be channelled and triaged via the senior leaders with input from the psychologist and where applicable may include a multi-disciplinary approach to triaging. Being a 0.4 FTE role, it is intended that one day per week is spent at each school.
The School-Based Senior Psychologist will provide advice and input into how strategies are implemented:

  • At an individual student and staff-specific level to unpack the areas of strength, difficulty and opportunity for students, staff and their classes. This will be informed by:
  • supporting the interpretation of external psychology reports
  • student/staff observation
  • intervention work with students either at an individual or small group level
  • mentoring, coaching and modelling with staff
  • where appropriate, the provision of concise reports outlining the psychologist’s observations and recommendations for individual students, which can help inform and support targeted interventions to be undertaken.
  • At a universal good-for-all approach through strategies and approaches that benefit all students, such as via:
  • workshops and presentations
  • contributing to all of site approaches to learning differentiation and wellbeing
