The Position:

The SURE Alcohol and Drug counsellor will provide an accessible, quality, therapeutic alcohol and drug counselling service. The aim is to reduce AOD related harm to individuals and their families by providing counselling interventions to assist clients and their family members to change harmful behaviours associated with AOD use and promote recovery.  This role has a particular focus on supporting individuals and family members affected by substance use at the beginning of their treatment journey.

This is a dynamic role and the successful candidate will have demonstrated capacity to be flexible and adaptable. Some of the key position responsibilities includes:

• Providing telephone-based intake service, bridging support, brief intervention, comprehensive assessment, information, advice and referrals to individuals and families. Including assessment of mental health and family violence risk.
• Enhancing the ability of individuals, family members and significant others to respond to drug and alcohol issues and build self-efficacy through the delivery of effective brief interventions and single-session work.
• Conducting comprehensive assessments and develop individual treatment plans whilst working within a harm reduction framework.
• Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to co-ordinate allocation to treatment providers
