About the role

The Balance Sheet Risk, Modelling and Insights team (BSRMI) at Heritage and People’s Choice includes interest rate risk, liquidity risk, FX risk, wholesale credit risk and ICAAP plus responsibilities around risk modelling and insights. 

In this role you will provide cross-functional support to ensure that our organisation operates consistently within our risk appetite. Reporting to the Head of Balance Sheet Risk, Risk Modelling and Insights, you will support senior members of the team with the management of the Balance Sheet Risk management framework including related policies, risk tolerance monitoring, reporting and analytical support. 

Overall, your key responsibilities will include contributing to the following core streams:

  • Supporting the team in reviewing regulatory requirements and best practice, assess coverage of these in policy and processes, then giving recommendations towards improvement 
  • Supporting the maintenance of elements of the risk management methodologies, frameworks and models for key Balance Sheet Risks (including Liquidity, Market Risk). 
  • Monitoring line 1 compliance with Balance Sheet Risk across the organisation and escalate any issues or incidents to Risk Leaders.
  • Supporting discussions and financial modelling with other departments’ (Treasury and Finance) leaders on Balance Sheet topics.
  • Analysing and contributing to reports on selected deep dive topics as directed.
  • Supporting the implementation of a contemporary stress testing framework including researching and developing stress scenarios, metrics and limits.
  • Participating in the evaluation of new products and business having the potential to affect HPC Balance Sheet and financial risk profile. 
  • Supporting the work undertaken by senior members in the team around the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) including the Capital Management Policy, and capital assessment of material risks. 
  • Performing analysis and reviews supporting model validation (not limited to Balance Sheet Risk) as directed.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of the model validation framework.
  • Executing specific line 2 assurance tasks.Proactively identify risks and recommend actions to avoid, mitigate or accept risks.
  • Promoting a sound risk culture by routinely escalating risks including supporting analysis, plus recommendations on avoiding, mitigating or accepting risks.

About you

We’re looking for someone with at least 3 years’ experience in treasury or risk management with strong financial modelling capability. This will need to be in a medium to large but diverse organisation where you have had exposure to the use of financial modelling. 

You will need to be a strong communicator with exceptional ability to translate complex information into an easy-to-understand format. Your experience and knowledge of contemporary strategic finance and treasury practices and trends will set you up for success as will a degree qualification in Commerce, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.

Additionally, you will relish the opportunity to positively influence the wider business through education and driving a strong risk and controls culture. Your work history will also demonstrate: 

  • Experience in one or more of risk modelling, Balance Sheet analysis, treasury management including with bank regulation (APRA)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence senior stakeholders using non-technical language
  • Experience and/or knowledge of contemporary market and treasury risk management practices
  • Good understand of financial market and derivative products and their application for risk management
  • Experience in writing and developing business documents
