SUMMARYAs an Android Developer at GOFAR, you are responsible for maintaining, enhancing and scaling our native Android app. This role is critical in supporting our global driver network, enabling functionalities like trip logging, data export for mileage reports, and vehicle health and cost management. Your focus will involve working with our native application, data, AI, and machine learning functions, making this a technically advanced and dynamic position.
The CompanyGOFAR is in the fast growing Smart Mobility space and makes a multi-award winning connected car (IoT) device that has thousands of customers and is live in over 70 countries.

Drivers buy our products to log trips and save time and money but we also deliver a strong social purpose too by helping drivers to significantly cut their CO2 emissions.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain our Android application
Collaborate with our iOS and Back End engineers to define, design, and ship new features.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
Ensure the application is stable and that performance is high, in particular focusing on reliable Bluetooth connectivity
Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs.
Help maintain code quality, organisation and automation.
Stay up-to-date with new technology trends, applications, and security protocols in the mobile space, particularly regarding Android and Bluetooth technology.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Proven software development experience and Android skills development with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
At least 3 years of experience with Android app development.
Strong knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes.
Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to backend services.
Experience with Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.
Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
Proficient understanding of code versioning tools.
Familiarity with continuous integration.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
Based in the Sydney CBD office, you’ll be working directly alongside the founder and within a small, high performing engineering team comprising mobile developers, hardware and electrical engineers.
The app is a native Android app written in Kotlin/Java and it works with an AWS back end and custom designed IoT hardware (with firmware written in C)
In this role, you will significantly contribute to the technical development and enhancement of GOFAR's products and services. Your expertise in Android development will be instrumental in driving our mission to help drivers manage mileage in minimum time whilst cutting their vehicle’s CO2 footprint.
