YOUR OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for an AOD Worker to support our Child & Family team at Jarrah House, working on a full-time employment basis to support families in treatment. Our clients (all women) are in treatment for drug and alcohol substance dependence and bring children from newborn to 5 years of age to stay with them for the 10-week program. As a non-government organisation funded by the State and Commonwealth governments, our mission is to promote the empowerment, health and well-being of women and their children by; providing an effective, compassionate and holistic drug and alcohol service, supporting women making informed choices about their life and respecting the individual & the rights of the child.
We provide medicated and non-medicated detoxification programs and accept women on opioid treatment programs. Our focus is a trauma informed, residential treatment program for women who require the skills to prevent relapse and prepare for in-depth therapeutic work.
The AOD Worker has a key role within the Child & Family team, responsible for supporting assessment of client needs, planning, development and implementation of the educational and support program for the mother and child in treatment. The position holder works in close collaboration with the Manager, Child & Family to lead service delivery from the perspective of the child and supporting the environmental and psychosocial needs of mothers with children in residence at Jarrah House. The role also collaborates with nursing staff to assist with the supervision of detoxification and rehabilitation of women and their children, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation.
Key accountabilities for the role include:
- Undertake facilitation of family activities, leading the activity either as a sole practitioner or as part of a small team.
- Understand case management and intake assessment processes and techniques, contributing to those processes specifically in the context of addiction and mental health.
- Undertake triage interventions within the context of Circle of Security and Triple-P Parenting frameworks.
- Ability to effectively interact with clients experiencing complex psychosocial issues which are present in the context of addiction treatment.
- Co-facilitate groups.
- Assist in the implementation of the Child & Family elements of the therapeutic program.
- Collaborate with others on the collection of data for reporting or research purposes.
- Demonstrate a values-driven operating style and a commitment to working collaboratively to deliver Jarrah House’s mission and achievement of the organisation’s longer-term goals.
Key selection criteria:
- Relevant qualifications and experience in social services, children’s services and Alcohol & Other Drug settings.
- Commitment to comply with the legislative framework applicable to the role.
- The right to work in Australia.
- Criminal Record Check clearance.
- Working with Children Check clearance.
- COVID-19 and other infectious disease vaccinations, in accordance with Public Health Orders and policies applicable to NSW Health Care Workers, also apply.
