About the Role
An exciting opportunity for a 1st year boilermaker apprentice to excel in completing their cert III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade. Working as a member of the production team, the Apprentice Boilermaker uses hand-welding equipment and/or semi-automated equipment to weld or join metal construction and fabrication components, safely, to quality and time specifications and standards. The successful candidate will be motivated and have a passion for the fabrication trade.
Key Responsibilities
- Read drawings, work orders and production schedules to determine product or job instructions and specifications.
- Competently and safely operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal using gas shielded metal arc.
- Competently and safely set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment, grinders and carbon rod gauging
- Label and sort manufactured plate material into product groups
- Mark-out, cut/drill/punch holes as required for plate material in accordance with fabrication drawings.
- Layout, position, align and assemble components together in accordance with fabrication drawings and tolerances.
- Mechanical cutting of steel and compiling of cutting lists from fabrication drawings.
- Measure and cut raw materials with straightedges and high accuracy.
- Move steel in workshop with overhead crane and forklift (where licensed and authorised).
- Transfer fabricated components between production departments in accordance with production schedules.
- Perform general housekeeping and maintenance of work areas, equipment, tools and facilities.
- Safely and efficiently undertake all other duties in the workshop, paint/blast bay and yard/dispatch areas as instructed by Operations Manager.
- Perform general site works as required.
- Undertake all other reasonable tasks and duties within your skill and ability, as directed.
Skills and Experience
- Genuine passion for fabrication trade
- Aptitude for mechanical and fabrication concepts and tasks
- Motivated and willing to undertake any additional training.
- Flexible approach and cooperative team attitude
- Willingness to assist in other areas
- Enrolled in formal Apprenticeship training through a Registered Training Organization and ability to undertake on-the-job training
- Previous experience in using reliable, safe work practices
- On site construction card (Desirable)
