The Role
The duties of the Course Design Officer (APS5) include:
  • Conduct learning and development activities in support of DFSL’s Course Design and development program, contributing to the production and maintenance of DFSL curriculum documentation for all DFSL courses.
  • Interpret Course Design and development-related policies and procedures, and apply them to Languages Other than English (LOTE) course development processes.
  • Participate in the ongoing revision of course curriculum for multiple LOTE to ensure compliance with DFSL Learning Management Packages (LMP) and as part of a process of continuous improvement.
  • Apply expertise, knowledge and skills to promote standardisation of course development practice at DFSL; - Apply formally recognised LOTE skills and/or equivalent experience in performing required duties or in conducting official business.
  • Establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, including with DFSL staff and learners.
About our Team
The Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) delivers language and cultural training to select Australian Defence Force personnel. The school provides over 50 courses across 18 languages with graduates applying their language skills seamlessly in communities across the globe to enhance Defence capability.Though this position is located in Laverton Victoria, DFSL also has a detachment in Canberra. There are currently approximately 100 ADF, APS and contracted staff and over 150 military students at any one time. As a school of foreign languages, DFSL is extremely culturally diverse.Under the guidance of the Head of Development, DFSL Development Wing team determines DFSL curriculum methodologies, setting up the processes and overseeing DFSL activities in the Course Design, Course Development, Blended Learning, LOTE Assessment and Faculty Development areas.Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with and strong understanding of LOTE Course Design and development, as well as RTO standards.Additionally, to be successful in this role you will also have:
  • Strong organisational skills, a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, highly developed communication skills (verbal and written), and exhibit keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to plan and implement Learning and Development solutions
  • Proven ability to perform moderately complex analysis on business practices to ensure standardisation and build organisational capability
  • Experience in promoting continuous improvement of LOTE curriculum based on contemporary LOTE Course Design and development theory and best practice
