Bistro at the Red Lion Hotel

We are seeking motivated and passionate Apprentice Chefs to join our kitchen team at the Red Lion Hotel part of Laundy Hotel Group. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is eager to kick-start their culinary career in a fast-paced and supportive environment. Under the guidance of our experienced chefs, you will receive hands-on training and mentorship to develop your culinary skills and knowledge.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced chefs to prepare and cook a variety of dishes, following recipes and guidelines to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Assist with basic food prep tasks such as chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, and assembling dishes to support the smooth operation of the kitchen.
  • Rotate through different kitchen stations to gain exposure to various aspects of food preparation, including appetisers, entrees, desserts, and garnishes.
  • Learn fundamental culinary techniques, such as knife skills, cooking methods, and food safety practices, under the guidance of senior kitchen staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces, following sanitation and hygiene standards.
  • Familiarise yourself with the menu offerings and ingredients used in each dish, and seek opportunities to expand your knowledge of flavour profiles and cooking methods.
  • Assist with inventory counts, stock rotation, and receiving deliveries to ensure sufficient supplies are available for daily operations.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures and safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Enthusiasm to pursue a qualification in commercial cookery with a strong desire for a career as a chef.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn from experienced chefs.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles is desirable but not required.
