The Role
Joint Proof & Experimental Unit (JPEU) is an integral part of the Explosive Ordnance Branch and is tasked to provide dynamic, static and environmental test and evaluation services to the Australian Defence Organisation. JPEU is seeking an individual for the role of a Data Acquisition Operator within the Data Acquisition Support Section (DAS).
DAS is responsible for collecting a variety of test data on Explosive Ordnance (EO) and associated equipment. These tests involve the deployment and operation of data acquisition equipment, post processing and reporting of data captured, and the implementation of best practice test methods. Underpinning these activities is the requirement for survey and spatial data. This role utilises the individual’s ability to understand three dimensional space and the movement of objects to produce interesting and unique data sets.
About our Team
DAS is an essential part of the Proof and Experimental Establishment that collects data from tests on Explosive Ordinance (EO) and associated equipment. DAS is a multidisciplinary team that collects data on pressure, velocity, imagery, and precise time and location, utilising a variety of specialised and bespoke equipment. From this DAS creates data sets which are refined and post processed ready for the customer.
DAS works with the Trials Team at the Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU) to set-up and design tests utilising support from our in-house workshops and instrumentation team. Deployment and operation of this specialized equipment gives our operators both a breadth and depth of knowledge.
DAS has a unique role as a technical team, which both maintains and deploys equipment while operating and processing the data produced. DAS plays a pivotal role with JPEU and aids to ensure Australia’s EO is safe for operation.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a variety of experience relevant to the role and display a variety of qualities well-suited to the role. They will have the ability to:
  • Maintain, set-up and operate equipment for the recoding of data;
  • Collaborate with team members and external stakeholders to ensure tasks meet requirements;
  • Sustain established test sites and production of point lists;
  • Prepare reports, maps, and measurements while documenting procedures, and involving the calculation of bearings, relationships between equipment, and the conversion between survey systems;
  • Operate total stations to achieve measures of precise locations within test sites;
  • Set priorities, plan, and organise work;
  • Exercise initiative, flexibility, and find solutions to problems;
  • Understand the limitations and specification of equipment, and to respond to unexpected readings in real-time;
  • Interpret and understand data;
  • Deploy equipment in accordance with a standard based on specific task requirements;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely; and
  • Assist and mentor colleagues.
