The Inventory Officer within RMC North will be required to perform complex materiel logistics work within an integrated maintenance delivery workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
Key duties include:
- Providing detailed materiel logistics technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
- Development of materiel logistics strategies and plans for information, communications, quality and resources that support the objectives of a sustainment activity.
- Prepare, implement and maintain policy, processes and procedures to support the sustainment of equipment in accordance with Defence requirements.
- Review, analyse and report upon materiel logistics performance in sustainment.
- Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders at the strategic and operational level.
- Interrogate Logistic Information Systems to achieve governance, compliance and assurance objectives.
- Communicate materiel logistics objectives through high-level written documents and oral presentations for higher delegate consideration.
About our Team
In response to the Australian Government developing a nationwide naval shipbuilding enterprise the Future Maritime Sustainment Model is being implemented to realise Plan Galileo; Maritime System Division’s national, long term approach to sustainment of the naval fleet. The Regional Maintenance Centre – North (RMC-N) is located in Darwin NT, and will provide capability support to the Royal Australian Navy. The focus of this organisation will be on enhanced collaboration, co-ordination, workforce development and expansion to build the capability and capacity needed to meet increasing ship maintenance demands.
RMC North is dedicated to the continued professional development of its staff and you can expect to enhance your skills through additional formal training. As the position is located in Darwin and considered to be a remote locality as defined in the Defence Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020, the successful candidate will have access to additional remuneration and entitlements including:

An APS 6Inventory Officer will demonstrate leadership behaviours and traits in accordance with Defence values. We are looking for a candidate with a demonstrated understanding of and experience in complex inventory management. They will have a high level of knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. They will demonstrate the ability to interpret and provide advice within the materiel logistics function based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement skills and experience in liaison with stakeholders in relation to logistics and quality assurance management.
They will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to leverage interpersonal skills to build and sustain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. They will be organised, demonstrate attention to detail, communicate effectively and be able to manage workflow whilst working in a dynamic and busy environment.
They will possess a high level of commercial acumen and understanding of industry practices, while demonstrating financial awareness and budget management experience. They will seek to develop their own skills and those of their team and will seek constructive feedback, accept development and leadership opportunities sharing relevant experience and knowledge.
