Budget Strategy Branch (BSB) in Budget Policy Division collaborates across Treasury and with the Department of Finance to deliver the Budget and related fiscal analysis and advice.
We advise the Treasurer on the fiscal outlook, budget strategy and balance sheet management. We are responsible for medium- and long-term fiscal projections, analysis and scenario modelling, the Economic and Fiscal Strategy and the Intergenerational Report.
We are a hard-working, curious, inclusive and enthusiastic team who use economic and other tools to solve policy and analytical problems. Our work is collaborative across Treasury, the APS, and with stakeholders to deliver trusted advice.
The roles available in BSB provide exposure to a wide range of evolving Government priorities and will give successful candidates valuable expertise in economics, public finance and the Budget process. It is an excellent opportunity develop interpersonal networks in a division at the heart of fiscal decision making. Roles include:
- Advising on public policy including the Economic and Fiscal Strategy, Intergenerational Report, Future Fund and Green Bonds.
- Developing the medium- and long-term fiscal projections for the Budget and Intergenerational Reports.
- Drafting of key Budget and Intergenerational Report documents, including the Budget statements on the fiscal outlook, forecasting performance and sensitivity analysis.
- Research and analysis on fiscal topics that affect all Australians.
Successful applicants will hold a degree in economics or a related field, and be able to demonstrate one or more of the following:
- strong economic analytic, data and policy skills (experience in fields such as economic modelling/forecasting, budget, accounting, or data analysis will be favourably considered);
- ability to be intellectually-curious but results-focused;
- ability to build and nurture capability in the branch on economic, policy and analytical matters;
- ability to cooperate and build connections across stakeholders to deliver collaborative advice.
