Allygroup is seeking highly motivated paralegals, Graduate Lawyers, and lawyers with less than 2 years PAE to work as Freedom of Information Officers (APS5) for an initial 3-month contract with 3 month extension, with a possibility of further extension with our high-profile Federal Government client.This is an exciting opportunity to support a high-functioning legal team and get a foot in the door of one of the biggest Commonwealth Government Agencies.
Candidates may be based in Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide or Newcastle. Part-time or full-time or felxible work arrangements available.
Key duties:
- Process and make decisions on requests for access of documents under the Freedom of Information Act.
- Provide high quality FOI advice to staff across the agency, including the FOI team.
Skills:
- the ability to interpret and apply the Freedom of Information Act 1982 to decisions on access or amendment requests
- organising, prioritising, monitoring and reporting on work in the context of competing priorities
- communicating confidently and presenting messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner.
- supporting and maintaining stakeholder relationships
- applying established criteria and making accurate evidence-based decisions
- researching, analysing and problem solving
- applying accuracy and attention to detail
- analysing information and data to make decisions and provide recommendations for review or clearance by senior staff
- provide professional advice on FOI to staff and stakeholders
- maintain and file records in accordance with information management processes and security requirements.
Would be beneficial if they have had experience with the application of the FOI Act.
Our ideal candidates will have:
- FOI experience and relevant experience within case management, data/privacy, policy, high-level records management, administrative decision making or the practical application of legislation in processing requests
- the ability to work under pressure and manage a high workload;
- outstanding time management;
- the ability to understand and apply legislation; and
- excellent attention to detail.
Requirements
Candidates who hold an Australian Government security clearance will be well-regarded.
